The Science Museum Group – a family of museums

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is devoted to the history and contemporary practice of science, medicine, technology, industry and media. Its collections, in the fields of science, technology, engineering, medicine, design and enterprise, transport and media, are the largest, most comprehensive and most significant in their field anywhere in the world.

SMG incorporates the Science Museum, the Science Museum Library and the Wellcome collections of the history of medicine at South Kensington; the National Railway Museum at York; the National Science and Media Museum at Bradford; Locomotion in Shildon, County Durham; the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester; and Concorde 002 with its associated exhibition at Yeovilton. Collection stores are located in Wroughton, Swindon; Blythe House in West Kensington; Foundry Lane in York and Black Dyke Mills in Bradford.

The Trustees of the Science Museum Group have statutory duties under the National Heritage Act 1983 for the general management and control of SMG. Within the framework of these statutory duties, the role of the Trustees is to establish SMG's policy, review performance and endorse appointments to key management positions.
